FSSAI’s West Region has signed an MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) with the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai to launch India’s first all-women ‘Clean Street Food Hub’.

According to the food regulator, through a public-private partnership initiative, an all women Self-Help Group (SHG) will receive support in setting up this hub, which is aimed at creating sustainable infrastructure and a hygienic environment for cooking and dining.

Meanwhile, a training session on safe and hygienic food preparation was also organised for 200 women participants during a meetup held at Kandivali.

In a similar move, FSSAI’s Eastern Region conducted the Food Safety Training and Certification (FoSTaC) programme for 100 street foodhandlers at the famous street food hub in Gariahat, West Bengal.

The initiative, FSSAI said, was focused on equipping street food vendors with essential foodsafety and hygiene practices while promoting awareness about safe food handling
