According to the FSSAI, Tripura will get 8 jackets, Manipur 44, Ladakh 2, Delhi 34, Goa 44, Gujarat 798, Chandigarh 10, Arunachal Pradesh 8, Dadra and Nagar Haveli 8, Chattisgarh 112, Kerala 294, West Bengal 358, Uttarakhand 104, Maharashtra 454, Odisha 36, Haryana 42, Karnataka 510, Bihar 210, Assam 64, Himachal Pradesh 40, Tamil Nadu 598, and Nagaland 16. Besides Regional Offices Delhi will get 38, Kolkata 28, Chennai 48, Mumbai 80. Apart from the states and regional offices, FSSAI HQ will also get smart jackets for its various departments.
Food Safety Smart Jackets were designed and conceptualised by FSSAI in collaboration with National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) and shall be a mark of professional identity for the FSOs (Food Safety Officers).
“This will enhance efficiency, professionalism and transparency in the food safety ecosystem, apart from bringing visibility of FSOs in the country,” says FSSAI in a statement.
The Jacket will help in containing cross contamination during the inspection of food businesses and sampling. The design will assist in technology enabled inspections by allowing the FS0 to smartly hold devices like tablets, smart phones etc. and the jacket will have provisions for a RFID tag, pocket camera and QR code to allow the use of such technology for tracking the visit of FSOs.
“The Jacket is ergonomically designed to allow easy carriage, stowing and use of items commonly carried by FSOs such as notepad, pens, gloves, sample containers etc. and also enabling him to have both hands free for operations,” the statement further read and added that the office of the Food Safety Commissioner shall distribute the said jackets to all the FSOs immediately and ensure that they are duly worn by all the FSOs while discharging their duties in the field.
Apart from the initial jackets distributed by FSSAI, HQ no further jackets or replacements shall be provided by FSSAI, HQ. The jacket in future shall be made available through GeM and Eat Right India Merchandise Store. These may be ordered and purchased by the State Food Safety Commissioner or any other Officer duly authorised by him or any FSO from GeM/Eat Right India Merchandise Store directly, the statement concluded
