The food authority has broadly recognised two streams/disciplines for the purpose of selection of the FSOs and these include ‘food technology’ and ‘agriculture science’.
Under food technology, the courses that were recognised include food engineering, food engineering and technology, food processing technology, food processing and preservation, food technology & management, food biotechnology, food plant operations management, food process engineering and management, food processing, food safety and quality management and process of food engineering.
Similarly the courses that were recognised under agricultural science include agriculture, agriculture engineering, biotechnology, dairy technology, fisheries, food technology, food nutrition & dietetics and horticulture.
According to the FSSAI, a bachelor’s degree or master’s degree or doctorate degree from the recognised university or institution in the recognised courses would be accepted for the selection of food safety officers.
