The FSSAI has directed authorised officers at the ports of entry to facilitate the entry of pulses and edible oil with speedy clearance of the consignments.

The food regulator has issued an order in this regard asking the officials for ‘facilitating’ the clearance of the imported consignments of pulses and edible crude oil.

The order says that the officials must process the clearance on priority basis.

“In continuation to the order dated 18th May 2021, the Authorised Officers were directed to facilitate and carry out the food import clearance process on priority without delay for consignments of imported pulses and crude oil –edible grade,” reads the order.

The order added that if required, scrutiny, visual inspection or sampling may be carried out even on weekends to expedite clearance.

In the May order, the FSSAI had asked the importers of pulses and edible oil to carry out advance filing of Bills of Entries in the Food Import Clearance System to avoid the last minute rush.

It is pertinent to mention here that in recent times, the prices of pulses and edible oil witnessed a sharp increase.

The Union Government also recently ordered a stock limit for pulses, which was opposed by the pulses traders in the country.
