The Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Maharashtra, has seized low quality food and dietary supplements which were stocked in violation of food safety laws recently. According to the information received by Food and Drug Administration, Vigilance and Intelligence, Sigma Lifesciences, Mumbai, stocked health supplement 100% whey protein (Ammolabz) and dietary supplement Progenix Mass Addict, which were of poor quality and flouted RDA norms.
It was found that the health supplement and dietary supplement stocks were in violation of the norms of Food Safety and Standards (Health Supplements, Nutraceuticals, Food for Special Dietary Use, Food for Special Medical Purpose, Functional Food and Novel Food) Regulations, 2016.
On seizure, the food samples were sent to laboratory for analysis. The analysis report is pending and upon receipt of the report further appropriate action will be taken as per Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006..
