As President-elect Donald Trump prepares to assume office again, this is going to be a little uncertain about the food and beverage industry. There could be huge policy shifts—enough to reshape operations and everything related to this landscape. Federal regulatory agencies may do some restructuring, while import tariffs are also expected to fluctuate. Especially, moulding immigration policies will be the focus this time, which will decide the future of labour.

If we talk about import tariffs, Trump already has some plans for that, as he proposed a 60% tariff on Chinese goods and a minimum 10% tariff for other countries. So, supply chain and production costs are in danger in this case.

According to GlobalData’s Senior Director of Consulting, Mark Dempsey, there could be a global trade war due to this application. His opinion is also fair as international trade relations will witness too many changes for the same.

When it comes to immigration policies, they have always been scrutinised by many critics worldwide and in the US too. This is because non-citizen immigrant labour has suffered a lot due to fluctuations in policies.

So overall, there will undoubtedly be some changes and uncertainty, which will lead to some adjustments in the food and beverage industry.
