The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has issued an order for setting up a Steering Committee for the Eat Right India (ERI) movement, which is aimed at focussing on eating habits of the people. The Steering Committee will have 17 members, including nine nominated by the FSSAI, one each from training partner/hygiene rating agencies/auditors and FoSTaC partner, three members each from industry and development partners.
FSSAI, in a statement, has said that to scale up and sustain the ERI movement across the country, consumer awareness for social and behavioural change activities is essential. Therefore a Steering Committee has been constituted for monitoring, evaluation and to extend necessary guidance for effective implementation of various programmes to be undertaken under ERI initiative.
The FSSAI nominated members in the Steering Committee include Commissioner, Food Safety, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Orissa, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Goa, Manipur and Sikkim. The representatives from industry include Sudhir Sitapati, ED, food and refreshment, HUL; Deepak Iyer, MD, Mondelez; and Ajay Khanna, MD, Herbalife.
Apart from the Steering Committee, the FSSAI has also announced formation of an Executive Committee that would preside over the day to day functions of the Eat Right Movement and help coordinate between the members of the Steering Committee.
The FSSAI set up the Steering Committee aimed at designing and implementation of the ERI programme wherein the committee would meet at least once in six months. The Executive Committee, on the other hand, will meet once in a month and shall monitor the project on quarterly basis.
“An Executive Committee to undertake day to day tasks concerning ERI initiative and to coordinate with line ministries, departments has also been constituted in this regard,” read the order by FSSAI.
The Executive Committee members include FSSAI’s CEO; Chairperson; Executive Director, Finance; Executive Director, Compliance Strategy; Head, Quality Assurance Division; Head, Regulatory, Compliance Division; Director, Training; and Director, ERI; will be the convener
