With an aim to contribute towards a circular economy, Danone India has developed a roadmap for achieving 100% recyclable packaging by 2025. The initiative comes as a part of the company’s ‘One Planet. One Health’ agenda‘One Planet. One Health’ is a commitment by Danone to foster sustainable eating and drinking habits and create a positive impact on the environment. A part of which, aims to strengthen its capacity across the food supply chain and deliver innovation and create products and solutions that address local needs and promote healthier diets.
Himanshu Bakshi, managing director, Danone India said, “In today’s times, consumers are increasingly shifting their attention to healthier products and brands which have a positive impact on the environment. At Danone, we believe that food companies have a critical role to address the ever-changing needs of the consumers and that we can change the world through food.”
The company has been running an advocacy campaign for mass education about nutritional challenges such as protein deficiency in the past three years and has partnered with the Eat Right India movement launched by FSSAI to improve the nutritional profile of its product portfolio in India.
In addition, the company has been engaged in water stewardship over the years and has already managed to reduce water consumption by 50% at its sites. Danone communities have provided access to safe drinking water to over 70,0000 people in association with Naandi Community Water Services and have till now launched 647 water kiosks across India.
Danone has over 900 million consumers worldwide. The company started its nutrition business in India in 2012 through the acquisition of the nutrition portfolio from Wockhardt Group. The company boasts of brands such as Aptamil, Neocate, Farex, Protinex, Dexolac and Nusobee, among others in India.
