The regulator directed all state food safety commissioners to initiate testing, with each food safety officer tasked to collect five specific samples—two packed, two loose, and one milk analogue.
“We alerted the FSSAI about our 2024 Diwali survey and they took note. We received inspection letters from FSSAI,” said Gujarat FDCA Commissioner HG Koshia. Gujarat’s survey of paneer will involve 165 inspectors. Each inspector is currently collecting five samples as part of the coordinated effort.
The sampling work continues nationwide, with FSSAI expected to release consolidated findings within a month. Food safety experts anticipate the results will reveal the true extent of adulteration challenges facing India’s food supply chain.
Overall, a positive outcome is expected from this assessment, which will help improve the overall quality of paneer and also the overall standards of the industry.
