A 19-member committee has been formed by the Indian government. They will primarily identify and address all the misleading advertisements in the processed food industry. Food Processing Minister Chirag Paswan will lead this team, where we also see many representatives will take part. FSSAI, the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, ASCI, and other industry bodies will be there.

Their combined aim is to make sure that no one company is left claiming something they are not offering. Among all the food brands, ultra-processed ones are the particular target. Many of them are using deceptive marketing tactics and misleading consumers to make higher revenues.

This is where this initiative comes into the frame, which will encourage businesses to prioritise transparency and accountability in their overall operations. The timing is also very crucial as people are becoming more aware of unhealthy diets at present.

So, they find this a high time to make their food labelling guidelines stricter. For this, they will first assess current regulations, identify loopholes, and then propose corrective measures. The overall process will ensure that food advertisements align with factual nutritional data. Plus, they will also create many public awareness campaigns for some obvious reasons.

This initiative is definitely a huge step toward strengthening consumer rights and promoting informed dietary choices. We should appreciate this shift and be a part of it.
