The Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Srinagar, Dr. Bilal Mohi-Ud-Din Bhat, made a bold decision to uphold food safety standards. He directed the conduct of rigorous inspections of local eateries. Recently, Assistant Commissioner of Food Safety Srinagar, Yamin ul Nabi, targeted Jehangir Chowk, Hari Singh High Street, and surrounding markets.

They primarily want to make sure that their targeted area is complying with the Food Safety and Standards Act. This is why their team assessed many food stalls and vendors. Food handling, storage, and preparation practices were the key focuses. Plus, they also educated vendors about hygiene and implementing measures. They encourage not setting up any temporary stalls near or over drains so that we can prevent contamination.

So, if they are not complying with what they have been directed to do, FSSAI can take action against their operations. The Drug and Food Control Organisation has been trying to ensure safety and quality in Srinagar for a long time, and this initiative is just one part of that.

More than that, DC Srinagar, Mohammad Aijaz Asad, conducted a meeting to review measures and ensure quality food. This was also for the same motive of emphasising food safety standards.

These efforts show how much dedication the administration has to equipping Srinagar with standard practices and offering hygienic food to the people.
