The US FDA is all set to ban Red Eye no. 3 in the F&B sector. They do not want it to be used as their main concern is something health-related. If we talk about its availability, candies, baked goods, and snacks are huge containers of it. The substance has already faced much backlash due to some allegations of causing hyperactivity in children and cancer in animals.

On the other hand, consumer advocacy groups and public health experts were also pressuring on this decision. The shocking thing is that this Red Eye No. 3 was already banned in 1990 but the F&B sector continued using it, and now it is witnessing its final days. This step was also possible because there are many natural alternatives available in the market.

This will significantly impact manufacturers as they have to reformulate their products to make them align with the updated regulations. This is why many brands targeting health-conscious consumers have started doing so. They are using beet juice and turmeric-like natural colourings to keep their label cleaner as per the demand.

Although the FDA is taking steps right now, and the ban is yet to be finalised, a huge shift has emerged when it comes to transparency and ethical practices.

So, it will be interesting to see how it shapes the whole industry after they finally ban it.
