Biplab Kumar Deb, Chief Minister of Tripura, is seeking dairy giant Amul’s help to develop the dairy industry of the state.
The meeting took place at the Secretariat in Agartala last week to share the expertise of the Nation’s apex milk based cooperative in developing a dairy industry in Tripura. A delegation of senior officials from Amul met Deb and discussed the agenda.
After the meeting, Deb said to media, that he is sure that this initiative will not only solve the problem of unemployment in the state but also it will also help to fulfill state’s milk demand. He also said that he is also aiming to make the sate self-reliant in milk production in coming three years. He added that government is also seeking help from Amul to implement his plan of distributing 10,000 cows to farmers in rural Tripura. The state government announced in November that it would launch a scheme for distributing 10,000 cows among 5,000 farmers to combat malnutrition and generate employment in the state.
Amul, Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation Ltd (GCMMF), is the largest food company marketing milk and milk products.
