President Kovind Inaugurated Platinum Jubilee Conference of All India Food Processors` Association (AIFPA). AIFPA has completed its 75 years of its dedicated services to Food Processing Industry. This conference is held for two day Platinum Jubilee Conference on December 20th and 21st at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi.
The Platinum Jubilee Conference was inaugurated by H.E. Dr Ram Nath Kovind, the Honorable President of India, and was further graced with the presence of the Union Minister for Food Processing Industries, Government of India, Mrs Harsimrat Kaur Badal and other dignitaries.
Speaking at the All India Food Processors’ Association (AIFPA), Kovind said there is a “substantial” difference in what the farmers get for their produce and what the consumers pay and emphasized on the need to reduce this difference. India is a food surplus country and it needs to fix missing links in the farm-to-fork value chain and also reduce food wastage.
President also added, “India is not short of food today and when it comes to many agricultural commodities and food processing, we have a surplus. We command a growing slice of a global market. Now is the moment we scale up our ambition for wider economic benefit, more so for the prospects of farmers.”
The president also expressed concern over food wastage, and said that it is a global problem as there is huge wastage not only in farm fields but also in the food processing industry. By quoting an UN report, he said USD 1.23 trillion worth of food is simply thrown away every year.
