The Amul MD was recently in Chandigarh to deliver the Dr NN Dastur Memorial Oration. He said, “Haryana has a big market for milk products. So, we are exploring options to establish more plants.”

Sodhi also emphasised on the need to increase the share of raw milk in the organised sector and said, “Amul is processing 250 lakh litres of milk every day in 70 plants across the country and is processing about 8.7 million metric tonnes of milk of the total 176 million metric tonnes of milk production in the country.”

He added, “The dairy sector contributed 30 per cent in the total GDP of the agriculture, but its share was just 4.2 per cent.”

Sodhi also raised his concern over the adulteration in milk and milk products. He said, “The sector has developed several mechanisms to determine the adulteration, but there is a need to check the adulteration of vegetable oil in milk and milk products with the help of an affordable and easy-to-use mechanism.”
