To create India Food Grid, Future Supply Chain Solutions is planning to invest Rs 1,000 crore.
India Food Grid is a network of 38 integrated food distribution centres that will provide pan-India reach.
The purpose of this project is to restructure India’s complex food and fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) supply chain. For this project 38 locations have been identified, across the country, which will be later on developed into large food and FMCG distribution centres with the investment of Rs 1,000 crore, as reported by the company source.
Kishore Biyani, Group CEO of Future Group said, “India Food Grid is an ambitious project by us that connects the entire country through a single, multi-layer network. Any supplier, small or big, can join this grid anywhere for further distribution across India. India Food Grid will ensure timely and efficient food, grocery and FMCG distribution.”
The products will be distributed from an integrated food distribution centres to retail stores within the radius of 225 kms.
The distribution centre in Shambhu Kalan in Chandigarh, Punjab was inaugurated by the company, this Friday. The distribution centre is set up on 2 lakh square feet and it is estimated that it will cater to distribution of consumer products for up to 300 stores.
