The Mega Food Park is an inclusive concept and a scheme of the Ministry of Food Processing of the Government of India, aimed at establishing a “direct linkage from farm to processing and then to consumer markets” through a network of collection centres.
The Scheme of Mega Food Park aims at providing a mechanism to link agricultural production to the market by bringing together farmers, processors, and retailers so as to ensure maximizing value addition, minimizing wastage, increasing farmers’ income and creating employment opportunities, particularly in the rural sector.
The new Food Park, Kakkencherry, Kozhikode, is all set for an inauguration. The has 70 acres, with facilities for an entrepreneur, a 90 years land lease uninterrupted power supply, round-the-clock water supply, rainwater harvesting, etc.
Around 60 units have started operations which includes Parisons Foods, Rime Rich Food etc. The Park aims to promote state’s ethnic food.
Food has many symbolic meanings like establishing the relationship between people and their environment as well as between people and what they believe. Therefore, food is an important component of a society that needs to be promoted. Another important factor of the Park is proximity to the airport.
