MTR Foods, as a part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme, Namma Makkalu, Namma MTR, has partnered with The Akshay Patra Foundation to provide over a million mid-day meals to 6,000 children from 60 schools in Surathkal and Mangaluru for the next one year.
The third consecutive year of the programme was inaugurated at the National Institute of Technology, Surathkal, by the MTR team, led by Sanjay Sharma, chief executive officer, Ganesh Shenoy, chief financial officer, and Sunay Bhasin, chief marketing officer, and Sundeep Talwar, chief marketing officer, The Akshaya Patra Foundation.
The Namma Makkalu, Namma MTR programme was launched in 2015 to provide nutritious food to underprivileged children. The partnership, with The Akshaya Patra Foundation, helped to feed nearly 2,000 children in 20 schools in the first year.
In 2018, the initiative was extended to a further 4,000 children in the areas of Mangaluru and Surathkal. MTR would be sponsoring nutritious meals for over 6,000 children in 60 schools this year.
“Our purpose at MTR Foods is to bring sustained and enduring change to the lives of the children. The Namma Makkalu, Namma MTR programme is aimed at providing nutritious meals to children to ensure they stay in school and become contributing members of society,” said Sharma.
“With every year of this initiative, we have expanded the number of children we reach out to – starting with 2,000 children in 2015 to 6,000 children today. We hope this initiative, in partnership with The Akshaya Patra Foundation, will bring about a change in the lives of these children,” he added.
Said Talwar, “The Foundation has been working to touch upon the lives of five million children by 2020 and partnerships such as this reaffirm our belief. We hope this long-running association with MTR Foods motivates more organisations to come forward and support this noble cause.
